  • Name: Ben
  • Suburb: Duncraig
  • Age: 21
  • Unicycles Owned: 1 so far, 20" Torker branded one (entry level), I guess it'd be freestyle as if I start hopping on it/jumping about I'm going to bend the cranks Tongue

I am however looking into getting a 36" wheel for distance riding, or basically anywhere I'd normally ride a bike, as opposed to my 20" unicycle. This is depending on whether the 36" is all I've made it out to be in my head that is  Grin

  • Unicycle Skills: I can free mount easily (with one foot so far, that is to say, with my left foot on first, not one foot only! that'd be hard to learn) and ride long distances, saddle soreness permitting. Can ride backwards a little bit (about as good as I could ride forwards after the first week of owning my uni), can idle pretty easily, hopping is easy too, but if I do it too much I tend to bend the cranks so when I get splined cranks/better 20" uni I'll look more into that.
  • Contact Details: um can contact me on ben at parkingdenied dot com for both msn & email Smiley
  • Other: I'm a keen video-gamer, I play a little bit of music, got a cello a year or two back that admittedly I haven't played a whole lot, but I want to start learning it again, even if it's only self taught. Um other than that, I work as a receptionist, and lately have just been trying to get/keep fit! Though lately I've been slacking in my unicycling a bit eheh

* Name: Hadyn Lander
* Suburb: Duncraig
* Age: 21
* Unicycles Owned: "Cycledesign" (generic brand) 20" muni - or atleast I think it's a muni. The tyre's fat and the cranks seem to handle a bit of abuse, that's about as much as I know.
* Unicycle Skills: I free-mount with ease, ride long distance, and occaisionally do small bunny-hops at the request of kids who yell at me if I don't do what they say. I can go backwards *a little*, but tend not to make it more than a few meters, and I've not practiced too much. I can't idle quite yet, but I'm getting there.
* Contact Details: email/msn - hadynlander at hotmail dot com
* Other: I've been mates with Ben (see above) since about year 2, so it's only natural I went and bought a uni after seeing him enjoying his so much... It's not that I copied him, I was just... inspired =P

Other than that, I'm an artist and a muso, which is handy considering I work at a place that's both a graphic design firm *and* a record label.

I draw a fair bit, though I've lost my touch lately just working on website layouts and whatnot rather than illustrations. I own and play acoustic/electric guitar, bass, and keyboard - though I'm not as strong on keys as on the bass or guitars. I record and mix music in a makeshift bedroom-studio - I'm quite proud of my setup =)

I also own a ukulele... You know, for good measure.

Name: Daniel Hope
Suburb: Joondanna
Age: 22
Unicycles Owned: Currently I have a 20" trainer, and a 24" Nimbus X.
Unicycle Skills: Getting back into it after a long break, thats my excuse anyway.
Contact Details: PM me.

Other: My unicycling history. Circus became a class option for 1 period once a week during my first year of high school 11 years ago. Decided to give unicycle a go, and started having to teach myself since it turned out noone actually knew how to ride at my school yet. Over the course of the semester I learned to do some tricks for some small circus shows we did, (riding with someone on my shoulders, riding down stairs, playing basketball, wheel walking etc.) I became the unofficial unicycle instructor and soon we ran out of unicycles at school with about 2 people per unicycle, so I didn't get to ride as much.
I moved overseas for a few years and didn't get back into riding till about 2 and a half years ago. I got a 20" learner before it got stolen along with my bike a couple months later with very limited riding time on it.

More recently, my rele's offered to buy me a new bike for my last birthday, I realised I would actually rather get a unicycle. While researching on unicycling in Perth I came across these forums and decided to register. I ended up buying a couple unicycles a couple weeks ago so I could get back into riding. Only had a couple afternoons I have ridden so far. Was feeling a bit uneasy about riding around in public so I decided to throw myself in the deep end and ride around Kings Park during on New Years crowds from about 7pm till late. I relearned to freemount and go off curbs etc.

I realised I went ahead and bought my unicycles before my reles could, so I have talked to them about getting me a 36" at some stage cos I am planning on doing a lot of long distance as well.

Morning. I'm Roger, live in North Perth area and have been a lone unicyclist in the wilderness.
I have a few unicycles including a big old Giraffe called the "Big Red Bastard", a Nimbus 24 Incher, a couple of good chrome 20 inchers and even the classic Minson Skate Bike!

I've been Unicycling for a while now and can ride backwards well and am working on nice smooth backwards circles. I'm fine with idling and am working on juggling at the same time and trying one footed riding and coasting. They are proving to be trickier than I thought. I sustained a magnificently paralysed leg as a result of trying one of these tricks last year - was showing off, then after my calf muscle was pulverised by the pedal, couldn't even drag myself home. Fortunately, I regained the ability to walk a few days later. Never could get the "riding with seat on stomach" trick but I'm not cut up about it.

Here's my book : The Unicycle Primer: have a look at the prieview- I made the book on Blurb.com- was great fun to write and shoot. http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/search?search=unicycle. Its a how-to guide for the absolute beginner.

Unicycles are great- I'd really like to see and photograph some vintage or home made models.

Good to be part of a CommUNIty like this. Thanks.

Roger
